An occupational therapist (OT) is educated and skilled in assessing how an individual’s daily occupations are impacted by illness, injury, medical complications, and/or life altering changes to the body, such as pregnancy. Daily occupations for prenatal and postpartum women may include working, driving, bathing, dressing, toileting, raising children, exercising, and sleeping, to name a few. Pregnant and postpartum women engage with their daily occupations differently given their changing, growing, and recovering bodies. An OT can assist in postpartum rehab, ergonomic advice, adaptive recommendations, managing emotional and psychological changes, and provide parent education & support to help you feel empowered throughout your motherhood journey. For infants, daily occupations include demonstrating emergence and integration of age appropriate reflexes, achieving developmental milestones, eating (bottle, breast, or table food), sleeping, playing, engaging socially, self-regulating, and communicating their needs to their caregiver. Infants may have difficulty with their daily occupations as a result of complications during pregnancy and/or delivery, developmental delay and/or congenital defects. By providing early intervention services, occupational therapy assists in optimizing the well-being of both the woman and infant. For the developing child, OT continues to develop feeding, motor skills, play, self-regulation and life skills for optimal functioning.

Wise Living utilizes functional lab testing as a way to further investigate hidden stressors within the body’s systems and investigate healing opportunities. The goal is to catch imbalances BEFORE becoming a diseased state. Tests are drop shipped directly to your home to complete there. When you are finished, tests are shipped back directly to the lab. Results are processed within 2-4 weeks. Some testing requires an in-person draw at a participating LabCorp.

Holistic care focuses on how all systems of the body work together. Holistic care dives deep into WHO the person is, WHAT is going on, and WHY they are feeling this way. Holistic care focuses on lifestyle modifications with diet, sleep, movement, nervous system health, & how every change can create a domino effect for better or for worse.

I have been an OT for 12 years working in pediatrics & geriatrics simultaneously for 7 of those years-in acute care, in-patient rehab, outpatient pediatrics, upper extremity orthopedics, and school based care. During COVID I worked through an insurance provider while I pivoted & finished my certification in functional diagnostic nutrition and had my two children. I have been learning functional health for 6 years and an FDNP since 2023. I have additional training and continued education in: reflex integration, feeding, lactation, nutrition, neuro-based treatment, upper extremity orthopedics & rehab, & sensory. As an FDNP, I am well versed in common functional lab tests including stool testing, HTMA, stress & hormone panels, blood chemistry, metabolic panels using the Walsh Pfieffer model to address bioindividual needs.
